I wish I could bust out my best Crocodile Dundee accent and say “That’s not a Shark, THIS is a Shark!” when referring to the female Australian marbled cat shark that was stolen from an aquatics shop in England, but I can’t. I looked it up and this shark looks kinda wussy compared to a real shark like a Great White or Mako.
None the less, the thieves who yanked the 2-foot-long shark out of its tank pulled off an impressive feat. Too bad the details weren’t caught on surveillance tape. If I had $20,000 worth of rare sharks sitting in a garage, I might invest in some protection. Surveillance camera, security alarm, an attack shark… Oh wait, that might not work. The male Australian marbled cat shark didn’t seem to defend his breeding mate very well. He didn’t lift a fin. The wuss. (Cue Jaws theme music here)
‘‘I’m just very angry really,’’ the owner, Peter Newman said. ‘‘Whoever came in there clearly knew what they were after. They probably would have taken the pair, but the male’s a bit harder to catch really.’’
Which explains how the female was shark-napped so easily?
It would be nice to believe that nothing will happen to you, but the reality of it is that an ounce of protection could be worth more than a pound of cure. What is Worth Protection to you? Your belongings? Your family? Your personal well-being?
Yours in safety,
